Visiting Nashville?

Welcome to NashVegas! Yes, that is what this town is called and has been for longer than I have been here. I am practically a Nashvillian, I have lived here for over ten years. If you are on this page, it could very well be because you rode with me while visiting Nashville using Uber!

Here are some suggestions for your stay while you are in town.

But, first...coffee! I am a big fan of the delicious nectar we call 'coffee'! If you are in need of good coffee, would like a place that also serves breakfast and lunch all day (until 5pm) may I recommend Frothy Monkey.

There are three locations - one on 5th Ave - downtown; 51st St in west Nashville and my favorite location: 12th Avenue South. This is one I suggest you and your friends visit. Once you are dropped off at Frothy Monkey, grab some coffee and enjoy this neighborhood we call the 12th South District. Here you will find Five Daughters Bakery, Edley's BBQ, Bartaco, 12th South Taproom, Franklin Juice Company and more restaurants and shops and boutiques. One boutique  which is quite popular is Draper James, this is Reese Witherspoon's store.

Another great coffee shop can be found on 21st in Hillsboro Village. It is called Fido's. In this area you will find two blocks of shops and restaurants. On the corner of 21st and Belcourt you will find Pancake Pantry. Get there early as there is usually a line, especially on the weekends. Down about a block or so on Belcourt from Pancake Pantry is Biscuit Love’s newest location. They are also known for their lines.

If you want to find a cute boutique with some unique fun finds, check out Pangaea. Just a heads up, they do have a little doggy that runs around, if dogs are not your thing, let them know and they will put him in the office.

We are a very dog friendly city, any coffee shop, bar or restaurant that has a patio will more than likely have water bowls out for the dogs who come hang out with their owners.

Broadway is the ‘hot spot’ for live music. Music kicks off every day at 10am, the bars rotate bands all day and into the night and will play until at least 2am (could be later, I am in dreamland by that time and could not tell you how late they play). A lot of the bars have roof top bars, if you want to check out a more chill scene, head down to the corner of 1st and Broadway to the tall white building, this is Acme Feed and Seed. Head up to their roof top bar, grab a drink and watch the river traffic float by, our Music City Star train taking people home after work and check out downtown Nashville from above. Want more of a party scene head to Honky Tonk Central, Tootsies, The Stage, Legends, or go over to 3rd and party at FGL House, that is Florida Georgia Line’s bar. I have not had their bloody mary, but I have heard it is a little crazy.

If you are in need of brunch on the weekend the following serves brunch: FGL House, The Tavern (on Broadway but in the mid-town area), Sutler (they are on 8th, but a popular spot for locals). Something fun about Sutler, they bring in a Bluegrass band during their brunch hours.

BBQ – I have two places I would recommend for you – Martin’s on 4th or one of Edley’s three locations.

Nashville Hot Chicken

The original hot chicken is Prince’s. They are a local-hole-in-the-wall kind of place. They are not fancy, but they are the ones who started this hot chicken thing many years ago. Check online for their hours as they do not cater to tourists, but locals who have gone there for decades.

Hattie B’s is the popular location for tourists. They have three locations, 19th is the one closest to downtown, but it will also be the one with the longer line. I would recommend you head to their newest location on 8th and save yourself some time. This new location has a bigger kitchen, more seating and less wait time.

Another popular spot for hot chicken is Party Foul. This is located fairly close to downtown, it is popular with locals and can be found on 8th. It is walkable from downtown, but due to the lack of sidewalks and increase of crazy drivers, I don’t recommend it.

For those who want a little history – Belle Mead Plantation is a great place for a fun and informational tour. This plantation is different from the others in the south, because instead of growing tobacco, they raised Thoroughbred horses. Special bonus, at the end of your tour check out the wine tasting, a favorite with many.

If you enjoy wine, Tennessee has 43 wineries. The more popular one is about 30-40 minutes away (yes you can take Uber there and yes you can expect an Uber to pick you up) is Arlington winery. A lot of the wineries have events at their venues with live music. Check out their website and make an effort to mingle with some locals while enjoying some delicious Tennessee wine.

If you are looking for a more upscale/fancy meal while you are in town, check out Skulls in Printers Alley. Don’t let the name fool you, it has a great dark ambiance and the food is amazing. Merchants on Broadway is also fabulous and has been around for decades. Tin Angel on West End has a great menu of delicious food. If you want to try some Italian, Mafioza’s on 12th Avenue South, Little Italy on West End or the Italian Market on 51st are places I personally enjoy.

If you hit up all these spots and want to check out more, head into mid-town down Division and Broadway for bars with live music and sometimes songwriter nights. If you cannot get into the BlueBird Café, check out the Listening Room on 4th, or find out who is gigging at: Mercy Lounge, Exit In, 3rd and Lindsey, 12th and Porter. These are places that may have a cover, but that is because they pay their bands. The talent has always been worth a few bucks at the door when I have gone to these venues.
